Head of Tools & Methodology and former Aerodynamics Lead
Oxford Brookes Racing
James grew up in Wimborne, Dorset, working on classic cars with his dad before joining Oxford Brookes University on the Meng Motorsport Engineering course in September 2015. He joined Oxford Brookes Racing at the start of university, working his way around the team, learning different aspects of the car, as well as teamwork. In his second year on the team, James started to focus on the aerodynamics department, contributing to R&D in CFD, and developing composite layup and manufacturing skills. Between his second and third academic years, James completed an industrial placement at Scuderia Toro Rosso working in the Aero Mechanical and Model Design groups within the Aerodynamics Department. Having developed his design skills, James returned to OBR as the Aerodynamics Lead, responsible for the design, manufacture and running of the aerodynamics of OBR19 – the team’s final internal combustion vehicle. From September 2019, James is now the Tools & Methodologies Lead, focussed on refining tools such as CAD, CFD and FEA.
